About Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl released in November 2021 for Nintendo Switch as faithful Sinnoh remakes of the 2006 originals. The Sinnoh Pokédex covers 151 species, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Lucario, Garchomp, Dialga, Palkia and the rest of Gen 4's lineup arranged in their original dex order. The Grand Underground returns with biome-specific hideaways letting players catch Pokémon from earlier generations. Browse the full Sinnoh Dex below in nine languages, filter by type, and click any Pokémon for its localised names, dex entries, abilities and stats.
Frequently asked questions
How many Pokémon are in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?
BDSP uses the original Sinnoh Pokédex of 151 species during the main story. The National Pokédex unlocks post-game and the Grand Underground's Pokémon Hideaways let you catch many older Pokémon.
What are the starter Pokémon in BDSP?
Turtwig (Grass), Chimchar (Fire) and Piplup (Water), the same trio as the 2006 originals. Their final evolutions are Torterra, Infernape and Empoleon.
What's different between BDSP and the original Diamond / Pearl?
BDSP is a faithful chibi-styled remake with Nintendo Switch Online play, Pokémon HOME compatibility, an expanded Grand Underground (now with biome-specific Hideaways for catching non-Sinnoh species), Ramanas Park for catching most prior-generation legendaries, and visual updates throughout.
Which Pokémon are exclusive to Brilliant Diamond vs Shining Pearl?
Brilliant Diamond exclusives include the Cranidos line, Stunky / Skuntank, the Larvitar line and the box legendary Dialga. Shining Pearl exclusives include the Shieldon line, the Bagon line and the box legendary Palkia.
Did BDSP add any new content versus Diamond and Pearl?
Yes. The Grand Underground was significantly expanded with biome-specific Hideaways for catching Pokémon from across the National Dex, Ramanas Park lets you catch most prior-generation legendaries via Mystery Plate readings, and online play through Switch Online replaces the original DS infrastructure.
