About Pokémon Platinum
Pokémon Platinum released in September 2008 in Japan (March 2009 worldwide) for Nintendo DS as the third-version Sinnoh game. The extended Sinnoh Pokédex spans 210 species, adding 59 Pokémon over the original Diamond and Pearl roster, including Magmortar, Electivire and a wider mix of returning Gen 1 to 3 species. The new Distortion World hosts the Giratina rematch story, and the Battle Frontier returns with five new facilities. Browse the full extended Sinnoh roster below in any of nine languages, filter by type, and click any Pokémon for its localised names.
Frequently asked questions
How many Pokémon are in Pokémon Platinum?
The Extended Sinnoh Pokédex covers 210 species, 59 more than the original Diamond / Pearl roster.
What are the starter Pokémon in Platinum?
Turtwig (Grass), Chimchar (Fire) and Piplup (Water), the same trio as Diamond and Pearl.
What is the Distortion World?
A new area introduced in Platinum where Giratina resides. Gravity and physics behave in non-standard ways, and the climactic story confrontation with Cyrus and Giratina takes place inside it. Defeating Giratina here lets you catch it in its Origin Forme.
What's different between Platinum and Diamond / Pearl?
Faster game speed, the Distortion World, Giratina's Origin Forme as the box legendary, the Battle Frontier replacing the Battle Tower, redesigned routes, a Wi-Fi Plaza and the wider Extended Sinnoh Pokédex including Magmortar, Electivire, Glaceon, Leafeon, Rotom's appliance forms and various Gen 2 / 3 returnees.
Is Pokémon Platinum compatible with Diamond and Pearl?
Yes, Pokémon trade freely between the three Sinnoh games via local wireless or Wi-Fi. Platinum can also receive Pokémon from Gen 3 games via the Dual-slot method using a Nintendo DS with a GBA slot.
