About Pokémon Emerald
Pokémon Emerald released in September 2004 in Japan (May 2005 in North America) for Game Boy Advance as the third-version Hoenn game. The Hoenn Pokédex covers 202 species, the 135 native Hoenn Pokémon plus returning classics that Ruby and Sapphire kept out of reach. The Battle Frontier replaces the gym-only post-game with seven competitive facilities, and box legendary Rayquaza headlines the story with both Kyogre and Groudon catchable. Browse the full Hoenn roster below in any of the nine supported languages, filter by type, and click any Pokémon for its localised names and stats.
Frequently asked questions
How many Pokémon are in Pokémon Emerald?
The Hoenn Pokédex contains 202 species. Emerald restored a handful of returning Pokémon that Ruby and Sapphire kept out of reach.
What are the starter Pokémon in Emerald?
Treecko (Grass), Torchic (Fire) and Mudkip (Water). Their final evolutions are Sceptile, Blaziken and Swampert.
What is the Battle Frontier?
A post-game competitive complex with seven facilities: Battle Tower, Battle Dome, Battle Palace, Battle Arena, Battle Factory, Battle Pike and Battle Pyramid. Each has unique rules, fixed levels, rental teams, knockout brackets and so on, and rewards Symbols for defeating each Frontier Brain.
What's different between Emerald and Ruby / Sapphire?
Emerald features both Groudon and Kyogre in the story (instead of only one), introduces the Battle Frontier in place of the Battle Tower, adds animated battle sprites, expands the story around Team Magma and Team Aqua working together, and brings back returning Pokémon that R / S couldn't fit.
How do I get Rayquaza in Pokémon Emerald?
Rayquaza is the box legendary and is required to resolve the Groudon / Kyogre climax. You first encounter and catch it at Sky Pillar before the final fight at Sootopolis City. It can be re-encountered post-game.
