About Pokémon Diamond and Pearl

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl released in April 2007 worldwide for Nintendo DS, introducing the Japan-inspired Sinnoh region. The original Sinnoh Pokédex covers 151 species and brought the first major engine update to the franchise: a physical/special move split, the Underground with online multiplayer, and dual-screen battles. Gen 4 starters Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup join box legendaries Dialga (Diamond) and Palkia (Pearl). Browse the full Sinnoh roster below in any of nine languages, filter by type, and click any Pokémon for its cross-language names, dex entries, abilities and stats.

Frequently asked questions

How many Pokémon are in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl?

The original Sinnoh Pokédex contains 151 species. The National Pokédex unlocks post-game once the player has seen the first 150 Sinnoh-Dex entries.

What are the starter Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl?

Turtwig (Grass), Chimchar (Fire) and Piplup (Water). Their final evolutions are Torterra, Infernape and Empoleon.

What is the physical / special move split?

Introduced in Gen 4 (Diamond / Pearl), it shifted move categorisation from being type-based (all Fire moves were Special, all Rock moves were Physical, etc.) to per-move. So Fire Punch became Physical and Bug Buzz became Special. This is one of the most impactful balance changes in series history.

Which Pokémon are exclusive to Diamond vs Pearl?

Diamond exclusives include the Seel / Dewgong, Scyther / Scizor, Larvitar / Tyranitar lines plus the box legendary Dialga. Pearl exclusives include the Slowpoke / Slowbro, Pinsir and Bagon / Salamence lines plus the box legendary Palkia.

What is the Underground in Diamond and Pearl?

A subterranean play area where you dig for fossils, treasures and Sphere stones, build a Secret Base, and play with up to three other local DS players via Download Play. The mode returned and was significantly expanded as the Grand Underground in BDSP.
